A solar tsunami has recently been spotted rushing across the Sun's surface in images obtained using NASA's STEREO satellites. The tsunami was identified by a team of scientists from Trinity College Dublin's Astrophysics Research Group (ARG). A full press release, from the Royal Astronomical Society, can be downloaded from here. The authors of the work include Mr. David Long (PhD Student), Dr. Peter Gallagher (Lecturer in Astrophysics), Dr. James McAteer (Marie Curie Fellow) and Dr. Shaun Bloomfield (Postdoctoral Fellow). The results have been submitted to the highly prestigous Astrophysical Journal Letters. A pre-print of the accepted Letter can be downloaded from here.
